Quick take: The "impeachment inquiry" and a prediction about timing
I contemplated a sarcasm-laced introduction, feigning surprise at the announcement of an "impeachment inquiry" into something-something Biden, but I simply could not bring myself to type it. This is retaliation for Trump's impeachment, and nothing more. I will spill some virtual ink this weekend attempting to manage the informational morass amid such disingenuousness, but for today, I have a simple prediction. I may be right, and I may be wrong, but consider. This is retaliation for Trump's impeachment, further fueled by Republican furor over the criminal charges against Trump. Hence, when Biden is inevitably impeached-- and this was inevitable from the day the GOP took the House-- the timing will be as follows. Hearings will coincide with criminal proceedings for Trump. This is going to be counter-programming. Trump is going to do everything possible to keep his hearings and the trials, themselves, off camera, but he may not be able to keep everything off camera. This will be counter-programming. If Trump is on trial from A to B, McCarthy will schedule Biden impeachment hearings to overlap. This will serve two purposes. First, it will take news coverage away from the Trump trial. Second, the Trump trial will take news coverage away from the fact that Jordan and Comer don't have squat on Biden. I can barely articulate their accusations against Biden, and I do this for a living.
And consider the alternative. If they think they have something real, they will want as much coverage as possible. That means they won't want to compete with the first ever criminal trial of an ex-president. So watch for when they schedule this stuff. If they have something, they won't want news competition. If it is just counter-programming when they know they have nothing, they schedule it to run against a Trump trial.
Let's see if I'm right.
