Open letter to the House GOP
To the House Republican Caucus,
You won. Let me lay this out for you, Kev'. The debt ceiling is the most idiotic and self-destructive law on the US federal books. Pass a law, and raise the debt ceiling. It is that simple. Do it, and everything continues to chug along normally under the greatest system ever devised, to the degree that the word, "devised," makes sense when, in fact, the whole point of capitalism is that it is the absence of design. There is no central planner sitting at a desk in Washington, D.C., pushing buttons and flipping switches to make the whole thing work because when you try that, it doesn't work. What must we do to keep it working? As little as this: refrain from the stupid. Refrain from destroying your own economy by, for example, refusing to raise the debt ceiling. In other words, all you have to do is raise the damned debt ceiling, and let capitalism work its math.
You took another path, because your party went crazy. You took the debt ceiling hostage, which you have been doing since 2011. You threatened to blow everything to smithereens if Joe Biden didn't give you some extra stuff in exchange for the concession of not melting down the global economy.
What was Biden's demand? Biden's position was that you not blow up the economy.
Biden has yielded. He has cried uncle. He has given up. He has handed you a bunch of shit that you didn't have before, and all you have to do to get it is not blow up the economy. This is a free gift.
You won, Biden lost. He gave up. He caved. He lost. He lost his nerve, he swerved in the game of chicken, he blinked in the staring contest, you can use whatever metaphor you want, but whatever metaphor you use, the old geezer fucking lost, and all you have to do to claim your prize is claim it.
On the other hand, you can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Like the gambler who bets big, wins, and then fails to cash in his chips for actual cash, hence leaving the money with the casino, you can still lose! Actually, you can make everyone lose by refusing to take the victory. Which you already have.
Biden gave you a bunch of stuff that you didn't have before, and you didn't earn. If you don't take it because you are so convinced that if you wait just five seconds longer, you can get even more out of President Fogie, here's what happens. You miss the deadline. You go all in, let it ride on a pair of two's, and you know that aphorism that "the House always wins?" In that case, you're not "the House." You're the dumbass. The "House" there is the casino, and the "House of Representatives" is the gambling addict who just lost his house on a bad bet, get me, pal?
If you don't take the victory you have now, keeping in mind that Biden already caved, you will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and then not only will the economy melt down, but you will face a lawsuit for trademark infringement from the Democrats. That's their thing.
Sincerely,
An investor who does not want to lose a fuckton of money because you can't take the fucking win.
PS: Take the win, assholes!
