Sunday quick take: Trump's silence and his aquittal
Holy shit, Trump was acquitted! This is the most surprising thing that has ever been totally not surprising! Why was he acquitted? How many times do I have to explain it? I have other comments for this morning.
Trump's silence throughout the impeachment. This (ironically) deserves comment. Donald Trump is many things. "Taciturn" is not among them. He was instructed by his attorneys that he needed to remain silent, as was his right, mirandized or otherwise. Why? This was the easiest "trial" in the history of trials. Was there anything that could have happened that might have resulted in his conviction? I kept telling you that his probability of conviction was zero. Yet, if anything could have led to conviction, it would have been Donald Trump saying anything. Hence, his attorneys told him to keep his fucking mouth shut. Seriously. All he had to do was keep his fucking mouth shut until the Senate voted, and the Democrats would not, under any circumstances, get 67 votes. There could be a video of him strategizing with the Proud Boys about the attack itself, and Senate Republicans would still have acquitted him. On January 7.
I'm not exaggerating. You know that, right?
And so I make an observation. He has no Twitter account. One of the pieces of commentary floating around is that if he had his Twitter account, he'd be tweeting up a tweetstorm! And you know what? He probably would! Part of being a sociopath is having no impulse control. So, yeah, he could call a press conference, go on Fox & Friends, or Hannity, or something like that, but that doesn't involve the same lack of impulse control. Tweeting? Perfect for someone with low impulse control and no comprehension of grammar, spelling or punctuation. Yes, I know that was not a complete sentence. Intentional irony. Fun with form.
Anyway, perhaps taking away his Twitter account was for his own good. And... the country's detriment. He might have done himself in.
Then again, who are we kidding? The Senate GOP would still have acquitted. A while back, I made some comments about welcoming Lindsey Graham back into democracy, but he went crawling back to his dom. Never mind.
And as for McConnell's speech, y'all know McConnell would object to criminal prosecution, right?
